Abstract
The press office of the University of Giessen "advertises" an allegedly promising clinical study which was the first "scientifically tenable" study to show the blood sugar-lowering effect of bitter cucumber [Fig. 1] as "significant". The authors of the study, published in an ethnobotanical journal, are several employees from the Institute for Nutritional Sciences in Gießen, as well as one author each from a clinic in Tanzania, a world vegetarian center in Taiwan and a social science institute in Hong Kong.
