Abstract
Blood helps to maintain homeostasis in the body, therefore any changes to normal blood ranges or functioning of the cells can impact health. Some blood disorders are complex, some can be life-limiting, although through medical advances, many are now manageable conditions and people can lead relatively normal lives. Early detection and intervention are crucial in ensuring morbidities and mortality are avoided, and quality of life can be maintained.
This chapter will includes an overview of the anatomy and physiology of blood and its functions, some of the common blood disorders and bleeding disorders that you may come across in practice and will refer to the genetic and genomic factors associated with a few conditions.
