Exploring the opportunity to improve SCM in farmer-supplier relationships in emerging economies

Abstract
This paper explores the possibility to provide a platform or a framework to the small and medium producers and often times less organized agricultural farmers’ in developing nations which can help them choose the most appropriate buyer for their produce from a group of potential buyers or middle-men. Most of the times farmers’ produce is bought at very low price either by the government under a minimum support price (MSP) for a particular crop mechanism or by middle-men at very low prices. This could happen due to lack of information available to the farmers with respect to the options they have to sell their produce. We study such relationships in the context of Indian farmers and propose a framework to help improve the choices these farmers have to improve their profits.
