Abstract
Old Stones Remember, part of the 2012 Presteigne Festival Singing Histories outreach project, is the musical culmination of a creative initiative involving a series of workshops with Gladestry Church in Wales Primary School, Knighton Church in Wales Primary School, Leintwardine Primary School, Presteigne Primary School and Shobdon Primary School. Many of the ideas created and sung by the children, including versions of some of the melodies, have been incorporated throughout this cantata.
Old Stones Remember musically follows the arc and structure of David Lewis’ poems which depict aspects of The Battle of Pilleth (1402). Six of the seven songs reflect dimensions of the battle from the view of different characters; the more reflective The Land Remembers The Battle lends its name to the title.
