Abstract

Tiimiakatemia was developed in 1993 by Johannes Partanen at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK). The Team Academy model adopts a practice-led, self-managed, team-based and enterprise-orientated approach to education. TA has been applied in different ways worldwide (Spain, Romania, Tanzania, Peru, etc.) and within the UK (Birmingham, Lincoln, etc.). As Tosey et al. (2015) point out, micro-cultures or local contexts in which pedagogical and cultural practices coalesce are not necessarily transferable so TA outside Finland needs to adapt considering elements such as social embeddedness, real-wordless, identity formation and normative attributes. UWE TA has been recognised as a leading example of the TA methodology in the UK.
UWE was a pioneer in the UK launching a Team Entrepreneurship degree in 2013. Since then, the programme has been adapting considering the feedback from educators, partners and students. This session will show how the programme has evolved towards a competency-based framework. The new design remains true to its radical origins but builds on frameworks that did not exist when it was launched. We will make use of interviews with educators to reflect on its evolution, design and performance.
The new design builds on competency frameworks for enterprise and entrepreneurship developed by QAA, EntreComp, and the UWE’s Enterprise Skills Competency Framework. We will reflect on the learning outcomes or assessment, but also on other elements that influence the programme’s pedagogic pillars, design, and development.
