Abstract

The conclusion, whilst recognising the specificity of the range of different film and television companies analysed in the collection and the varied criteria behind what 'success' might mean, tries to draw together the common elements that have emerged. It discusses the importance of the founders and their continued imaginative leadership that is strong but also nurturing and flexible, tolerating risk and remaining close to the production process rather than divorced business people; the centrality of creativity to which everything else is subordinate; the importance of a stimulating and conducive work environment, socially, ethically and physically - the design of the building; the need to develop diversified revenue streams and seek new markets; the necessity to have good relationships with funders; the continued importance of public support for SMEs, including public service broadcasters; the continual need to be adaptable and respond to change.
