Abstract
The introduction to this collection of 15 chapters reviews the current nature and concerns of what is generally called Media Industry Studies or Production Studies. It undertakes a critical survey of the literature and explains how the volume is positioned within this field. The introduction also explains the rationale and focus of the research project of which this collection is the summation and its methodologies, especially the use of interviews. It also describes the reasons for the collection's focus on micro and small film and television businesses and the relative paucity of work in this area. It also provides a brief synopsis of each chapter.
