Research Methods for Public Health

Abstract

Public health research has undoubtedly played a key role in advancing people’s health and wellbeing. Recent successes in public health research are evident in celebrated achievements in health improvement and health protection, including advances in the control and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, to healthier children and families, safer environments and more resilient schools, workplaces and communities. Methodological innovations have helped contribute to the evidence underpinning these achievements, coupled with distinctive contributions of researchers and scholars from a broad range of subject disciplines. Our book offers a primer to this complex methodological field that embraces the diverse character of multidisciplinary public health. This book also represents a plea to public health researchers to integrate multidisciplinary
learning into their methodological repertoire, to meet the grand challenges, existing and emerging, of twenty first century public health.
