Abstract
Through a case study of the University of the West of England this presentation explores the relationship between Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).
The paper considers the alignment between ESD and PRME noting the shared cross-curricula relevance, the need for interdisciplinary engagement, the global and holistic scope of each and the recognition in both of the importance of responsibility, citizenship and stewardship. Whilst there are strong similarities there remain key issues differentiating PRME from ESD including a much stronger identification with business disciplines and a focus on the economic realm and corporate contexts. Opportunities for further alignment and harmonisation of the two initiatives are discussed within the context of the case study.
