Abstract

The impinging shock-wave/flat-plate boundary layer interaction is a standard CFD case for two-dimensional (2D) SWTBLI, which represents the simplest SWTBLI configuration for the validation of turbulence models and computational methods. Although plenty of researches focused on this kind of flows2-5, the flow mechanism in it is still not well understood. Comparing with the 2D SWTBLI, the three-dimensional (3D) SWTBLI is even less studied and understood, although, it is closer to real flows and has special influences on the performances of intakes and control surfaces. Most researches of 3D SWTBLI are limited in the framework of experimental measurements6-12 and numerical simulations by solving Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations13-16. The large-eddy simulation (LES) or direct numerical simulation (DNS), which can give detailed information of turbulent flows and greatly benefits the research of turbulence mechanisms, has not been applied in the 3D SWTBLI yet in published reports
