Team Academy and Entrepreneurship Education

Abstract

“If you really want to see the future of management education, you should see Team Academy.” Peter Senge made this comment over a decade ago about the Team Academy model of entrepreneurship education and since its inception in JAMK - the university of applied sciences, Jyväskylä, Finland in the early 1990s, educators and practitioners engaging in the Team Academy model have continuously pushed at the innovation boundaries of more traditional teaching approaches to education. Surprisingly perhaps, there is very little published research about the theory and practice behind the model; this book series aims to change that position.

In this first of a four book series, researchers and practitioners explore the pedagogical approach that underpins the Team Academy model, and consider critically the way in which the culture, experience and approach enables rich and deep learning. Key contributions to this text include an exploration of the origins and evolution of the Team Academy model by the founder, Johannes Partanen, in conversation with his long time colleague, Senior Team Coach and graduate from Tiimiakatemia, Hanna Waldén. The Team Academy model has spread around the globe, with programmes inspired by and based on the Tiimiakatemia philosophy and approach now in existence in 16 different countries across 4 continents. A founding member of the UK Team Academy community, Alison Fletcher, Director and co-founder of Akatemia UK, explores the decade long journey of bringing the Team Academy model to Higher Education establishments in the UK.
