Abstract

Space can fascinate children from an early age, presenting a key opportunity to engage them with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Minecraft is an extremely popular construction-based computer game with parallels and analogies to real-world processes, offering further scope for STEM engagement and exploration. Science Hunters is a novel engagement project which uses hands-on discussions and Minecraft to inspire children about STEM; by combining this innovative approach with space topics such as ‘Can we survive on the moon?’ and ‘Building rockets’, children can be successfully engaged with constructive, imaginative investigation of space features and exploration.
