Abstract
On and off, shadow and light. These are the essentials of every image. All prints are binary because ink is either on or off the paper. Our brains create the images. As printmakers and artists, we can only hope that we have given the audience enough food for thought so that they engage with the print and create their interpretation of what they see. Whether that coincides with the artist’s intent or whether the optical information has triggered a new reality unique and personal to the observer, is out of our hands, as fleeting as shadow and light.
The artists in the exhibition have followed the invitation to present how they work with ‘on and off’ in their artistic practice, and how they create shadow and light in their prints.
