Abstract
This workshop compared different pre-printed samples on a range of fine art materials, which range from Japanese papers to fine art canvas. These samples demonstrate a very broad range of surface qualities and differences in the gamut of the printed colour.
The session highlighted differences between the most well used file formats: JPEG, TIFF, PDF and differences between vector and bitmap images. Comparison of RGB and CMYK printer drivers and what is the best method for the generation, saving and archiving of image files.
Demonstration of the important requirement to record how an image is generated and printed, which might include the operating system, software, colour space, output profile and paper profile. These are necessary requirements should an artist wish to reprint an image in the future and to maintain colour accuracy and repeatability when producing editions.
Work from still life images that were captured using a range of cameras. (Mapping HDR luminance for colour appearance: an experiment) and demonstration of methods of profiling for fine art papers, and colour gamut differences between different printers and cmyk and rgb printer drivers.
