Abstract

This exhibition shares the outcomes of a research project by Dr Emma Agusita exploring the impacts of UK family immigration policies and rules on relationships between British and non-EU partners and families.

• Additional Information: The 'Visualising Love' research project considers the nature and affects of cross-border separation for partners and families, including ways in which people engage in transnational communication in order to maintain emotional connections when apart. The project aims to make visible the challenging realities of people’s struggles to be together.; ; The small-scale study reflects on how the stories and experiences of affected partners and families as well as accounts from family immigration caseworkers and advocates can be represented and visualised in creative ways. The exhibition features illustration work and co-produced mixed-media artefacts which are inspired and informed by interviews and dialogues with the research participants. These forms aim to unsettle and disrupt institutional framing and positioning of migrants and their loved ones. Participants’ contributions have been anonymised.; ; The research project has been funded by a 2017-2018 Vice-Chancellor’s Early Career Researcher Development Award at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). It is supported by UWE Bristol’s Digital Cultures Research Centre and Reunite Families UK [RFUK], a not for profit national organisation supporting families who are affected by the UK spouse visa rules.; ; The project features artwork by Radley Cook.
