Helen Nicholson
Biography | I originally studied Biology and gained my PhD in 2008 at Imperial College London. I then went on to complete a Foundation Degree in Paramedic Science at St George's and register as a Paramedic. Over the last 10 years I have worked as a paramedic lecturer before becoming a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow at UWE. I am currently leading the Emergency Care of the Older Adult module on the Paramedic BSc programme whilst working on several research projects focusing on trauma care, particularly in the older adult. |

Research Interests | I am interested in all areas of emergency care research and particularly in the pre-hospital setting and the challenges that it can present. I am currently researching ways to improve the delivery of trauma care, especially for older people as well as safely minimising hospital admissions. |
Teaching and Learning | I am currently leading the Emergency Care of the Older Adult module on the Paramedic BSc programme. I have also led the Evidenced-Based Paramedic Practice and Advancing Paramedic Practice modules at UWE. I have a particular interest in clinical decision making, research skills for healthcare professionals, trauma care and care of older adults. |
