| Project Description | My doctoral thesis, entitled 'Art Writing and Subjectivity: Critical Association in Art Historical Practice’, was completed in 2019. It was concerned with material and phenomenological associations developed between pairings of artworks and texts that held no historical, thematic, or causal connection but were brought into relation through the active performance of writing as research and practice. The artists and writers explored in the thesis were: Francisco de Zurbarán and Susan Sontag; Walter Pater and Peter Doig; Michael Simpson and Gertrude Stein. |
