Little is known about the business models that are needed to transform the benefits of technology into jobs, and income, especially for people in vulnerable situations. Drawing on interdisciplinary engagements from technology and development studies, inclusive innovation, and business model innovation this project aims to fill the gap in the literature by developing an Inclusive Digital Technology-Based Business Model (IDMODEL) that will particularly provide a platform for the deprived youth and women. In order to do so, the project was carried out by studying the rapidly growing online platform ‘Kwai’ developed by Kuaishou Company in China. The mobile phone-based Kwai apps and its business model have been diffused and adopted widely and have supported many self-made grassroots entrepreneurs to start a business by sharing their expertise or experiences in a wide range of areas, from production to farming, cooking, raising livestock, sewing, making handicrafts, or even singing or playing sports or games. Capital investment to start such a business is minimum, one only requires a mobile phone, basic IT skills, and access to a mobile network. Technology and innovation play an important role in attaining sustainable, inclusive, and just growth.
