Abstract

This introduction takes as its point of departure, three vignettes, each accounting for a particular contemporary articulation of the relations between nation/alism, gender and sexuality. Whilst inevitably selective, these vignettes nevertheless offer instructive insight into some key contours of the contemporary nationalist landscape. Following a mapping and exploration these gendered and sexualized contours, the introduction goes on to account for the aims and scope of the text, offering a detailed synopsis of the book’s content and contribution, as it unfolds. The introduction concludes with a proposed research agenda for further explorations of the complex, shifting, yet always ‘productive’ intersections between nation/alism, gender and sexuality.
