Photography and integrity - an overview

Abstract
To open the 'Integrity and Photography' symposium, this brief paper gives an overview of how I see integrity played out across various genres of photography. I argue that integrity is not a notion owned by documentary approaches to photography, and likewise considerations of that genre are not relevant to others, citing Sophie Calle as an example of a photographic artist with integrity, although ethically problematic. I state it is important for professional photographers to understand how they enter the conversation of integrity as a personal anchor.
This opening paper explores the topic and introduces the subsequent speakers, who each enter the conversation from different perspectives according to their practice, profession and personality.
