Abstract

This talk explores Black history through certain popular items in a familiar family home. Based on my book, Black everyday Lives, Material Culture and Narrative: Tings in de House, (Routledge, 2023), this talk takes you on a journey through a few hundred years of history, exploring stories, personal experience, research and fascinating insights. This talk demonstrates how history is not a foreign land in the past, but a very current presence n the present day, whose stories are encapsulated in the objects that surround us.
