The integration of Generative AI into higher education is transforming the way students engage with learning materials, both within and beyond the classroom. This paper explores the use of AI-powered tools—including ChatGPT, Google Notebooks, and AI podcasts—to support a Year 2 university module on climate change. These AI-generated resources were designed to complement traditional lectures by enhancing independent study and fostering deeper engagement with course content. From an academic perspective, the paper reflects on the practicalities, challenges, and opportunities of embedding Generative AI into teaching. Additionally, it presents student evaluations and reflections on the effectiveness of AI-assisted learning in supporting their independent study and assessment preparation. This study contributes to ongoing discussions on the role of AI in higher education and its potential to reshape learning experiences.
