Dr Jane Kirkpatrick

Biography Jane joined UWE in February 2019. She has taught and led modules in Politics and International Relations, including Theories of Politics and International Relations, Nature and Use of Research, and Global Political Economy.

Jane is a Director of E-International Relations, the world’s leading open access international relations website. She is also the Features Editor and oversees the publication of the wide range of interviews and reviews found on the site.

Prior to joining UWE, Jane was a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant on social media/the politics of videogames at the University of Leeds. She carried out a Political Studies Association (PSA) placement as a Committee Specialist on the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee (PACAC). Jane also worked as a Research Associate at the University of Lincoln on the Leverhulme Trust funded project ‘Parliamentary scrutiny of the UK intelligence and security services’.

Her doctoral research examined how an international state-building presence shapes social movement development, as well as other grassroots political activism. Using a political opportunity structure, she considered the opportunities available to the social movement and now political party, Vetëvendosje in Kosovo, and the civil society organisation Afghanistan 1400.
Research Interests Jane’s research interests include state-building, social movements, democratisation, civil society, nationalism, popular culture, and UK parliamentary scrutiny.
