Biography I have worked in Respiratory Physiology and Measurement since February 1977, having trained in Cardiology, Neurophysiology, Medical Physics and Ophthalmology. I developed my skills further at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne before moving to Bristol Royal Infirmary in 1982. At Bristol, I co-set up the Sleep-Breathing Disorders centre in 1988, originally based at Bristol General Hospital, before its final move to the main BRI site. In 2023, I retired from the NHS after 48 years. In 1990 I became a Clinical Scientist and in 2000 became a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Respiratory/Sleep-Breathing Disorders.

My PhD at University of Bristol was in aspects of gas exchange at rest and during cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

I have been involved in higher education since 1988, having taught at Exeter College (ONC in MPPM), NESCOT (HNC in MPPM), City of Westminster (HNC and BSc (Respiratory/Sleep) and at UWE (Respiratory/Sleep) since 2015.

I am an active member of Education, Examinations, Research and Sleep committees for the Association for Respiratory Physiology and Technology (ARTP), and a member of the British Sleep Society Education Committee.
