Abstract

Jeppe Hein's work Follow Me was produced by Situations in partnership with the University of Bristol to celebrate their centenary year. Two years in development, the mirrored labyrinth is now permanently sited in the University of Bristol's historic Royal Fort Gardens. Jeppe Hein’s work encourages playful encounters and often surprises its audiences by playing with optical phenomena, or creating scenarios in which members of the public are encouraged to interact with each other or with the artwork directly. The design emerged through a response to the original 18th century designs of the landscape gardener Sir Humphry Repton, whose garden designs similarly sought to invoke imaginative encounters. Claire Doherty is the Curator of this permanent public art commission.
