Abstract
Chwarel is an audio-visual installation exploring the disused granite quarry at Porthgain, West Wales. It is a collaborative project between Ruth Jones and Andrea Williams funded by an AHRC Small Practice-led Research Grant. The installation is designed to create a liminal experience of place for the audience using primarily sound-led techniques including 5:1 surround sound and a discreet directional speaker. The piece was exhibited as a “work in progress” at Howard gardens Gallery, UWIC Cardiff in February 2010. Following on from this, a further exhibition of a re-edited version is planned in West Wales for August 2010.
