Abstract

Peter Walters was invited to present recent results of cutting edge research in 3D printing at the Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed, Bristol.

In 3D printing, physical objects are created by a computer-controlled fabrication process. Recent projects include the development of a new ceramic material for 3D printing, which allows ceramic artists and designers to create prototype and limited-edition ceramic artifacts which can be fired and glazed in a traditional way. In another recent project, 3D printing techniques were combined with smart “artificial muscle” materials to create interactive artifacts which can move and change shape in novel ways.
