Abstract

Greenhalgh and colleagues’ invitation to BMJ’s editors to reconsider their policy on qualitative research highlights the continuing paradigm war between quantitative and qualitative research. This response seeks to support the invitation by highlighting the value of doing research with people – the patients, service users, families and carers, concerned others, and so forth – that can be catalysed by qualitative research.
