Abstract
Forbidden Planet/The Haunting was a performance for Mutter Physics, 'a celebration of improvisation, collision and the subtle entanglements', which took place at Spike Island on Thursday 12 April 2019, in the Fine Arts Project Spaces and Cafe at Spike Island, Bristol, a centre of contemporary art & design. Initiated by the book launch of Kit Poulson's book MUTTER, artists, musicians and writers took part in the event, which was introduced by Gavin Everall (bookworks). The performance was composed as a verbal representation, the retelling of a whole constructed from two scenes taken from the films Forbidden Planet (1956) and The Haunting (1963). The scenes provide challenges to a narrator, engendering improvisation.
