The RADSearching Group: A community for all radiography learners

Abstract

Background
This poster will report on an initiative carried out by several academics and their students to embed research more firmly into the curriculum. This came about as a result of internal funding for teaching and learning innovation at the authors’ host institution.

From the first day of their degrees to the last day of their Doctorate we want radiography learners to be part of our vision to create a research driven curriculum within the radiography programmes. We want to use this opportunity to engage learners with the Society and College of Radiographers Research Strategy 2016-2021. Here it is acknowledged that the profession needs to develop and grow its research presence and evidence base. It also acknowledges that to achieve this, departments need to foster a research culture. At present, although there are pockets of activity in our programmes, this is disjointed and there is no “joined up thinking” as many people work in silos. This project therefore aims to facilitate activity in this area.

Radiography as a profession is not strong in the research field. Our long-term team goal is for the research focus to grow. However we need this vision to start somewhere. Rather than this be driven by the teaching team we want our learners to drive this forward with us and for them to be part of this. We want our graduates to be able to articulate the value of the research process and to be the long-term enablers in clinical practice to support research.
