Abstract

Education outreach is one form of public engagement whereby non-teaching professionals engage with young people in informal or formal learning environments. Engaging with scientists and engineers in person has been shown to improve children’s learning and attitudes towards STEM subjects and professionals. Undertaking education outreach also benefits scientists and engineers themselves, enabling the mastery of generic skills such as communication and teamwork. In this presentation, Laura examines different methods for evidencing this work, and looks at how it can be evaluated for use in a REF impact case study.
