The consequences of climate change are becoming part of people’s everyday worlds as they live with increased risks of drought, flood and wildfires. Such conditions bring with them associated difficulties in food production, disease control and conservation efforts that are negatively impacting on people and planet alike.
A recent survey commissioned by Sky News reported that a quarter of Britons are unwilling to change key habits to help tackle climate change with 69% of those polled reporting that they were not personally affected by climate change. This survey did not include participant under 18 years old. In response to this, a similar survey was undertaken with 1170 young people (7-18 year olds) from across Britain in May 2021. This report outlines the findings and recommendations based on the young people’s survey responses and adds their voice to this discussion.
