Abstract
This chapter introduces the aim of the book as intending to building bridges between environmentalists and equalities communities. It discusses why we need diversity and inclusion in environmentalism - so that we can bring as many on board as possible to bring about an effective, equitable and just transition to sustainability. This will ensure that environmental issues are adequately addressed and in ways that are attuned to social and cultural difference. Pointing to the context of structural inequality, the chapter also introduces some of the reasons for which environmentalism needs to change so as to recognise the contributions of diverse groups and their particular relationship with environmental issues. This chapter also contains a section on definitions so as to clarify the scope and focus of the book. The final section describes the book’s structure and contents.
