Abstract
The author, in her exploration on the relationship between photography, mortality and death, focuses on the materiality of the analogue print and its ability to recapture those we have loved in what the author describes as 'altered states'. The chapter examines the changing nature of the photograph's materiality through the history of the development of the photographic medium, not only in its analogue but also in its digital forms, with a particular focus on the ways in which the limitations of technology create spaces for reflection on the fragility and vulnerability of the human condition, illustrated in the author's own artistic practice through her work with 3D print technology.
