Abstract
This entry outlines empirical evidence for the key influences on children’s body image. It reviews the prevalence of body image concerns during childhood and examines the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that can influence children’s body image. The methodological quality of research in this area is assessed, and the implications of the research, including the factors that could usefully be targeted in early prevention programs for children, are discussed.
