Abstract
This group exhibition examines the use of narrative and language within the systematic methods of production. By placing emphasis upon the languages associated with artistic practice and its critical reception the exhibition sought to engage with some of the pre-suppositions surrounding the attempt in art to ultimately provide a self–sufficient meaning. The pursuit of an exclusive point of origin or original guarantee for all meanings has characterised western thought since Plato, yet the work selected for In the Beginning… reflected the growing critique of this pursuit as a fundamentally repressive philosophical tradition.
