Chiral complexes of the type [MoCl(CO)2h3-CH2C(COX)C=CH2)(phen)] containing optically active substituents X have been prepared by the reaction of the chlorocarbonyl (X=Cl) with amino acid esters or with amino alcohols, and their diastereomers have been investigated by NMR spectroscopy. Reaction of the chlorocarbonyl with diamines gave rise to dimeric complexes containing dibutadienyl bridging ligands, and these have been identified by a combination of synthetic and computer modelling methods.
