Abstract

Archival repositories are results of historical narratives, but in turn, are also building blocks of new ones. This 40-minute artistic intervention / performative lecture takes the archival collec tions of mainly the Library of Congress as a starting point. It emphasises that archival repositories are important places of discovery. And that they are acute and necessary starting points of personal entry. By examining institutional archival layers of control, the performance highlights invisible barriers to collecting and curatorial practices. By exploring that control’s resulting occlusions, absences, things not present, and lacunae, the performance reflects on pervasive narratives and possibilities for decolonising revisions.
