Abstract

In the face of climate emergency, the built environment professional is required to engage meaningfully with a range of emotive topics across pollution, tackling inequalities, resource scarcity, acute weather events, ecological damage and financial constraints. Furthermore, it requires long-term considerations of local and global impacts, and addressing multiple viewpoints, based on meaningful stakeholder consultation, to inform well-balanced, holistic, decision making. To equip theses graduates there needs to be a holistic interdisciplinary learning experience.
This chapter explores two case studies, which exemplify the need for interdisciplinarity when embedding sustainability into built environment curriculum, whilst exploring the barriers and enablers for this.
