Black Lives Matter: How the UK movement struggled to be heard
Francis, Patricia
Authors
Abstract
In response to the killing of George Floyd in May 2020, international protests under the banner of the Black Lives Matter movement asserted the global inequity of the Black experience. But the Black Lives Matter movement was formed much earlier than this; first in America in response to the killing of Black teenager Trayvon Martin in 2013. In the UK, in 2015, Nottingham became the first Black Lives Chapter in Europe.
