Abstract

This article seeks to give an overview of some important provisions of an international instrument dealing with organized crime. The United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime of 2000 provides for the criminalization of crimes that are normally associated with transnational organized crime. The crimes are: participation in an organized criminal group; money laundering; corruption and obstruction of justice. Apart from a brief discussion of each of these crimes, some aspects of the enforcement scheme are also addressed. Special attention is given to jurisdiction and extradition.
