Additional Information Additional Information : Originally published in Gender and Education, the selection of this article for a prestigious Reader represents acknowledgement of the author's significant contribution to the field of gender and education. The innovative but praxis-orientated approach to engaging with the debates around boys' underachievement has been disseminated through international, national and regional conferences and has informed a considerable number of professional development activities with Local Authorities and schools. A further publication related to this work has been reprinted in Education, Globalisation and New Times (edited by Ball, Goodson and Maguire, 2007) that comprises a selection of the most influential papers published over the twenty-one years of the Journal of Education Policy. Raphael Reed's conceptual framework has also been enhanced and developed further in two recent practice-orientated publications for Paul Chapman on Creating Gender Fair Schools and Classrooms: Engendering Social Justice (Raphael Reed and Rae, 2007).
