Additional Information | Additional Information : Refereed journal paper and guest editorship. The papers included in this 'Landscape' number of the Journal of Visual Art Practice were presented at a conference organized by Biggs and Tucker on behalf of the national practice-led research network LAND2 at Dean Clough, Halifax in November 2004. The editorial frames the papers - in addition to those presented by LAND2 members include contributions from Dr Laura Malosetti Costa (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Prof Griselda Pollock (University of Leeds) - in the context of intellectual orientations to interdisciplinary work between the visual arts, cultural geography, archaeology, anthropology, earth sciences, and work on identity. Publication of this double edition of JVAP edited by Biggs led to an invitation from the Place&Space group at the University of Minnesota (http://ias.umn.edu/space-place.php) to members of LAND2 to attend a workshop - (Re)placements: memory matters - in Minneapolis 2-7 June 2007. Biggs' paper 'Recovering Landscape: an art between seeing and hearing', uses the author's own practice and an enquiry into the minimal references to music in the work of Lucy R Lippard - particularly her influential text 'The Lure of the Local' - to critically explore Lippard's orientation to notions of belonging and to take up the implications of work done by Rebecca Solnit so as to expand our understanding of landscape 'by working between our sense of sight and sound as a means to deploy what Richard Kearney refers to as 'the testimonial imagination'. |
