Abstract

On Friday 21st October, Fairfield House was honoured to have Dr Julius Garvey MD, son of Jamaican national hero and Pan African visionary Marcus Garvey, visited Bath city.

Dr Garvey, is a Human rights activist, vascular surgeon and Medical Professor. In conversation with Professor Shawn-Naphtali Sobers, Dr Garvey spoke about his childhood, losing his father at the age of 8, the importance of the activism work of his mother Amy Jacques Garvey, his career in medicine as a vascular surgeon, the need for healthy living and diet for wellbeing, the healing philosophies from Africa, the philosophies of his father, and the campaign to pardon his father from the racist trumped up charges his father was imprisoned for in the 1920s in the United States.

This event was a collaboration between Fairfield House, the Marcus Garvey Legacy Trust and UWE Bristol, part of the Freedom In the City Learning Programme, directed by Sobers.
