Abstract
Three films are translated into a comic book format, breaking down the narrative of the films into a series of drawn episodes. The story-board format eradicates the director's authorial voice liberating contradictory new meanings and relationships for the audience. The 'conventions' of the art film such as: references to high art and architecture; psychological relationships; an engagement with the individual, and an interiorisation of dramatic conflict are broken down through the format of the comic book, revealing the mechanics of the narrative and its prejudices.
