Abstract

This is an important contribution to regional and national schools ability to offer case studies of Diversity Through Time, and the long term multi-ethnic nature of England. The History National Curriculum has always required coverage of this theme, but resources have been sparse and lacking in original source materials. The website provides a series of well developed and supported period studies based on original documents and well supported with images from national and local archives. Schools are able to complete a virtual or real trail through the city centre looking at places connected with incomers, immigrants and settled minority individuals and groups. Diversity relates to ethnicity and faith in terms of the bulk of the materials, although class, gender and region also play a part in the narrative and tasks presented for learners.
