Abstract
This research had a high impact in Turkey, and a more modest impact in the UK and beyond, where copies of the materials have been circulated to an international audience.
This output is a 84 page academic book, produced in English (500 copies) and Turkish (1000 copies) emerged from a two-year EU/Turkish funded project linking three universities: Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey; Karadeniz University, Trabzon, Turkey and their Schools of Education. The activity was funded with 151 679 Euros, operating under the EU ‘Promoting Civil Society Dialogue Between The European Union and Turkey’ programme.
The research focused on scoping current trainee and teacher trainers understanding of the two countries and their attitudes. Part of the focus was to use UK expertise to develop Turkish teacher education and promote mutual learning about ‘the other’ country and its education and history education systems. There was a data gathering and research phase to the research, coupled with a series of seminars at which presentations and active workshops were made. Approval ratings from the Turkish invitees to the sessions were high and Turkish colleagues suggest a very strong reception and use of the materials.
