Abstract

As the growth of degree apprenticeships becomes an ever-increasing provision of universities across England and Wales so the need to extend the experiential knowledge in academic teaching grows. It could be argued that none is more high-profile than the introduction of the three recruitment routes for new police officers. Following a national curriculum set by the College of Policing for the Police Degree Apprenticeship Programme (PCDA), Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHeP) and the Professional Policing Degree (PPD) these provide a professionalisation process for police officers by integrating higher education accreditation into their pathway of learning (College of Policing, 2020) like those of probation, social work and nursing. It is within these programmes of study that the police pracademic has emerged.
