Abstract
In this introduction to the book, some context to the authors is provided, their experience and positioning within the framework of policing, the College of Policing PEQF and its growing relationship with higher education and the academic arena. Each chapter is outlined, giving the reader a sense of how the book is structured, the content and relevance of each chapter and what they can expect from the text in terms of their personal development as a social science researcher. The writing style is purposefully conversational, with humour and added references to policing practices to put the reader at ease. The latter is particularly highlighted to support them recognise at the earliest opportunity, the transferrable skills they already possess as serving police officers or as developing newly recruited police officers and how these can be utilised in the academic forum.
