Abstract
The Cinemapping App maps Bristol's screen heritage so you can experience local cinema history in the places where it actually happened, from Cary Grant's memories of the Clare St Picture House to the unsolved murder of Odeon manager Robert Parrington Jackson.
The project is the result of a 3-month rapid prototyping 'Heritage Sandbox' scheme funded by the AHRC REACT Hub. The project is a collaboration with creative economy partner, Jo Reid (Calvium) and heritage partner, Peter Insole (Bristol City Council / Know Your Place). During the scheme we tested the ability to stream content to and from BCC's Historic Environment Record GIS database, the interactive Know Your Place map, including background location tracking, authoring multiple hot spots and using push notification to alert users of nearby cinemas. We undertook a user evaluation of a single point of interest experience at Whiteladies Picture House and tested various iterations of a multi-point tour of the Lost Cinemas of Castle Park.
The research is to be showcased at the REACT 'Heritage Sandbox' launch on 28 Sept at Watershed Media Centre, Bristol.
